Presentation
Headers & footers
This group of instructions controls the header and footer area shared by the whole presentation: whether slides show the slide number, the date/time, and a footer text, plus the header/footer settings for the notes and handout (print) view. These settings live on the presentation’s slide master (and its layouts), so they apply to every slide at once, not to a single slide.
Prerequisite: before using any of these instructions, the workflow must already have a PPTX presentation created or opened (with Create presentation), which these instructions will act upon.
These concepts recur across several instructions in this group; they are explained here once.
-
Document: indicates which document in the workflow the instruction applies to. If left empty, the current document is used.
-
These settings affect the whole presentation: unlike the slide instructions, these do not target one slide by number. They switch the header/footer elements on or off for all slides (through the slide master), so there are no slide-number fields here.
-
Dynamic values (
@name): in a text field you can type@followed by the name of a value saved earlier in the workflow, and it will be replaced by that value. Here only Footer text is a text field, so it is the only one that accepts@name. -
“From variable” fields: the
@nametrick only works in text fields. So that a yes/no field (like Show slide number) or a numeric field (like Starting number) can also take its value from a saved value, each one has a companion “from variable” field:- If you leave it empty, the value chosen in the normal field is used.
- If you fill it in with the name of a saved value, the engine ignores the normal field and uses that variable’s value.
This is mainly for chaining instructions — for example, an earlier instruction can save a yes/no or a number, and one of these instructions can read it from the variable. If you only work with fixed values, you can ignore these fields.
-
Nothing happens if the document is missing: if the Document refers to a presentation that is not open, the instruction simply does nothing (no error).
Set Slide Date .pptx
Turns the date/time element on or off in the footer area of every slide.
When to use it: to show (or hide) the date/time across all slides.
| Parameter | Meaning | Default | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Document | Document the instruction applies to | (current document) | No |
| Show date | Show the date/time on the slides | Yes | No |
| Show date (from variable) | Reads the yes/no value from a saved value | (empty) | No |
Important behavior: the change applies to all slides through the slide master and any layouts that carry their own header/footer settings.
Set Slide Number .pptx
Turns the slide number on or off on every slide and sets the number the presentation starts counting from.
When to use it: to show page numbers on the slides, optionally starting from a number other than 1.
| Parameter | Meaning | Default | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Document | Document the instruction applies to | (current document) | No |
| Show slide number | Show the slide number on the slides | Yes | No |
| Starting number | The number the first slide is counted as | 1 |
No |
| Show slide number (from variable) | Reads the yes/no value from a saved value | (empty) | No |
| Starting number (from variable) | Reads the starting number from a saved value | (empty) | No |
Important behavior: the starting number is at least 1; any value below 1
is treated as 1. The change applies to all slides through the slide master and
any layouts that carry their own header/footer settings.
