License Terms

Escribal · © 2026 Erik Monrreal (“the author”), publishing as EridaniDev.

These terms are an agreement between you and the author about your use of Escribal (“the program”). By installing or using it you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the program.

1. What this license gives you

While you have an active subscription, the author grants you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to install and use the program on the Windows devices that the Microsoft Store rules allow for your account. The program is licensed, not sold: the author keeps every right these terms do not expressly grant you.

2. The subscription

  • Escribal is used with a monthly or annual subscription, bought from the program’s own start window through the Microsoft Store. If the store offers a free trial period, it is the one the store shows at the time of purchase, with its length and the date of the first charge.
  • Microsoft sells it and charges for it: price, taxes, renewal, cancellation and refunds are governed by the Microsoft Store terms and policies, not by these.
  • Without an active subscription the program does not work: its window only offers the subscription, and it runs no workflow, not even when an AI assistant launches it. To check the subscription the program asks the Microsoft Store; if the store cannot answer, the program behaves as it does without a subscription.
  • What you have already made stays yours when the subscription ends: the documents you generated and your .scriba files stay on your computer, and you can open them with other programs.

3. What you may not do

You may not, except to the extent applicable law allows you to despite this limitation:

  • copy, distribute, sell, rent, lend or sublicense the program or any of its parts, including the engine that runs the workflows;
  • decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the program;
  • circumvent, disable or tamper with the subscription check;
  • remove or alter the copyright notices or the third-party notices.

4. Your files and your data

  • What you create is yours. The author claims no rights over your workflows, your data or the documents you generate.
  • The program writes and overwrites files wherever your workflow tells it to. A workflow may save over an existing file (including over the file it opened), and a connected AI assistant may run workflows that write wherever they say. You choose those paths, and keeping backups of what matters to you is your responsibility.
  • Databases. If you connect the program to a database, you do so with credentials you supply, and it is up to you to have permission to read that data.
  • Fonts. The PDFs and documents you generate may embed fonts installed on your computer. Whether a font may be embedded depends on that font’s license, and complying with it is up to you.
  • AI assistants. If you connect an AI assistant to the program, that assistant can read your workflows and the results of running them. Choosing the assistant and its provider is your decision, and what that provider does with the information is governed by its own terms.

5. Third-party components

The program includes components by other authors, used under their own licenses. They are listed, with their license texts, in the third-party notice that ships with the program (Settings → About). Those licenses govern those components; nothing in these terms limits them.

6. Updates

The author may release updates through the Microsoft Store, and they may add, change or remove features. These terms apply to them as well, unless an update comes with new terms.

7. Privacy

The program sends no telemetry and requires no account with the author, and it only connects to the network when your workflow asks it to or to check the subscription with the Microsoft Store. The detail is in the privacy policy: https://escribal.com/privacy.

8. No warranties

The program is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent the law allows, the author makes no warranty, express or implied, including those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The author does not warrant that the program is free of errors, or that the documents it generates are correct for your purpose: review what it produces before relying on it.

Some consumer protection laws do not allow certain warranties to be excluded. If that is your case, these exclusions apply only as far as the law allows, and you keep the rights that cannot be waived.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, the author is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for loss of data, of files, of profits or of business, arising from the use of or the inability to use the program, even if advised of that possibility. In any case, the author’s total liability is limited to what you paid for the subscription in the twelve months before the event giving rise to it.

10. Termination

This license terminates on its own if you breach these terms, and it also terminates when your subscription stops being active. On termination you must stop using the program. Clauses 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 survive termination.

11. Microsoft

Microsoft is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the program. If these terms and the Microsoft Store terms say different things about the purchase, the download or the installation, the store’s terms prevail.

12. Export

You agree to comply with the export control laws that apply to the program, including those of the United States. The program uses encryption (secure connections and password-protected PDFs).

13. Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois (United States), without applying its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute about them or about the program will be resolved before the state or federal courts sitting in Illinois, and both parties accept their jurisdiction. Nothing in this clause takes away the rights granted to you by the law of your place of residence that cannot be waived by contract.
